Barack Obama’s Lies Part 18 – Scolding the Supreme Court During the State of the Union Speech
by Lawrence on Feb.01, 2010, under Barack Obama's Lies, Politics
During the State of the Union speech last week, Barack Obama scolded the Supreme Court for a decision they made the week before which allowed corporations and public interest groups to have the same donation and advertisement rights during campaigns as unions and 501C groups have. The condescending scolding tone and singling out the justices as “naughty” got a lot of attention. Yet, the real problem here is how he totally misrepresented the decision and lied about it.
So, Balrack Obama, who raised the most campaign cash in U.S. history stated that this decision would open the door for foreign interests to influence U.S. elections. He also stated that this over-turned 100 years of U.S. law. He was wrong on both fronts. The case that was brought before the Supreme Court was brought by a member of Citizens United, which had made a documentary about Hillary Clinton that they wanted to release during campaign season. They were forbidden to do so by the FEC. This group was a completely American public interest group. With films by left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore, and Oliver Stone’s W. being released during campaign seasons, it’s truly ironic why this group could not do the same… mostly because they are a conservative group.
All of the language that bans foreign companies or foreign funds used by American companies toward campaigns is still in place and is unaffected by the Supreme Court decision. The Democrats just want to maintain that labor unions and their interest groups only have free reign in donating and advertising for candidates. Why shouldn’t other American groups have the same rights as labor unions? What the hell, the Democrats still ahve their billionaire fund-raiser George Soros there creating “public interest” groups like they’re going out of style. The Supreme Court decision did not affect any decisions made 100 years ago, but rather, affects legislation from the McCain-Feingold bill that has only been in place in the last 4-6 years. So, Obama lied on two fronts. Yet, as we can see, lying is a regular approach used by this president.
